2 Simple Techniques to Get Your Ball on the Fairway Every Time

When I first started golf I used to pack my golf bag with extra balls before each game.  I was always scared that I would run out while on the course and I had good reason to be.  I could rarely hit the fairway; my ball usually went left or right into the rough or the woods.  It became so frustrating I nearly gave up the game itself.  That is until one day I was paired with an elderly coupe who could hit straighter then me and almost as far.  I had to ask, how do you do it?  This man, who I’ll call John gave some simple tips that changed my game and radically increased my enjoyment out on the links.  Now have to stock up on balls and I can use some nice PRO V1s with out fear of losing them.

The first thing that you have to do is focus on your grip and setup position. Most golfers grip the club too hard.  This can lead to an intense feeling and a lot of pressure on the course.  The trick is to have a nice relaxed grip.  Most golfers also do not stand correctly at address. Your back should be straight, and you should bend from the hips. Many people hunch the shoulders, and this just leads to a faulty spine angle, which leads to inconsistent shots. Grip pressure, posture, and alignment are all crucial.

The second this is that you need really good rhythm in order to achieve your best distance and accuracy.  Don’t be tempted to make a quick move from the top of your swing, which can ruin your entire tempo and sequence of events. (Most high handicappers make this mistake). You can counteract this movement by developing internal counting during your swing.  Counting "one one thousand" on your backswing and "two one thousand” on the downswing will help to create a smooth rhythm.

Now, most people will have trouble with these elements with the driver because it is the longest and most difficult club to hit.  It will be easier with the shorter clubs because there is less of a premium on
distance and more on accuracy.

A good way to practice this is to go to the driving range and alternate between your driver and 9 iron.  You want to concentrate on making nice easy swings, you don’t have hit the ball hard, just nice and easy and make contact with it.  If you implement these two techniques you should find yourself landing on the fairway most of the time.

If you like this article and feel these techniques may help you or you already have implemented these techniques and they are helping you land on that fairway most of the time, then come visit me at http://www.teewrite.com – Home of the pencil golf tee.
