3 Proven Practice Techniques That Will Lower Your Golf Score

I used to wake up every weekend bright and early with visions of birdies in my mind.  I would eat a nice breakfast hope in the car and drive to the golf course. However, once I got there and had reached the third of forth hole I often wondered why I hadn’t just stayed in bed.  The vision of birdies changed into visions of pars.  I used to repeat this every weekend all summer long.  One day I just happened to get paired up with older golfer, he was in his 50’s, had a big smile on his face and loved every minute he was out on the course.  I immediately knew I wanted to be like this man.

I asked him what his secret was, how at your age are you playing so well and with so much ease?  He looked at me and said “how much time do you spend practicing?” I had to think about it and eventually came to the conclusion of none of once in a while I go to the range.  He looked at me and said there’s your problem.  My golf game didn’t just come over night or improve with going out once or twice a week, it takes practice and dedication.  I asked him what exactly he did for practice and this is what he told me.

Hit a penny off a mat.  Can even do this one at home, perfect for educating the hands. Start out with a chip shot and learn to hit a penny off a mat. This drill will very quickly train the precision needed to get the ball airborne off the grass. If you can hit the penny you can hit the bottom of the ball and eliminate topped shots.

Similar to the strategy above, hit a penny out from under the ball Fine tune your clubhead aiming skills place the ball on a penny. Try to clip the penny out from underneath the ball. The best drill to reduce the hands flipping through impact.

Lastly, practice your hand eye coordination.  There are many drills available for this, one technique that a world famous cricketer used, Sir Donald Bradman, was to hit a golf ball with a small stick off of his furnace.  In this instance you can use a wall.  Nevertheless, this will help improve your hand eye coordination and you will find striking the ball much easier.

I am now like that man, out there every weekend enjoying my golf and the visions of birdies have returned.  I will tell you though, it didn’t just happen overnight, I had to rededicate myself and continuously strive for improvement.
