Welcome to part 2 of this preview of all the teams for the coming premier league season. How will your team perform this year?
Newcastle United – Gabriel Obertan is the major signing of the summer at St James’ Park whilst Kevin Nolan is perhaps the major departure. Rumours persist that midfielder Joey Barton will also be leaving with Newcastle fans wondering what the season may hold and many around the club suspecting there is a lack of ambition. Without any more big name arrivals, this could be a really tough season in the North East. My Newcastle Prediction – Relegation Battle
Norwich City – One of the new arrivals from the Championship always seem to have a decent first season and this year, the team from Carrow Road may be the surprise package. With nothing to lose and always strong at home a strong start will be essential to survival. If they can get some quick points on the board, there may be enough confidence for the Canaries to stay up. Manager Paul Lambert has been brilliant so far but he will have his hands full this time around. My Norwich City Prediction – Lower Mid Table/Relegation Battle
Queens Park Rangers – There is money at Loftus Road and despite being promoted as convincing Champions from the championship, the future of manager Neil Warnock always seems to be an issue. However, he is still there and has brought in the likes of Kieron Dyer, Jay Bothroyd and DJ Campbell. Warnock is certainly going to have a go at the Premier League again. My QPR Prediction – Relegation Battle
Stoke City – Tony Pulis keeps building his Stoke team stronger and stronger and making them harder and harder to beat, especially at the Britannia Stadium. More defenders in Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson and bids in for William Palacios and Peter Crouch of Spurs could well mean yet another strong and solid season for Stoke, not to mention an appearance in the Europa Cup. My Stoke City Prediction – Upper Mid Table
Sunderland – Steve Bruce has assembled practically a new team at the Stadium of Light. Some of the names to expect on the team sheet include, Wes Brown, John O’ Shea, Craig Gardener, Dong-Won Ji, Sebastian Larsson and David Vaughn. Sunderland struggled after the loss of Darren Bent last season but expect a much stronger showing this year if all of those new players can achieve chemistry quickly. My Sunderland Prediction – Upper Mid Table
Swansea City – I fear Swansea are the team that comes up and plays great attractive football but can’t keep enough clean sheets to pick up enough points. They will play good football, they will win new fans but they probably will go straight back down again. My Swansea Prediction – Relegation Battle
Tottenham Hotspur – Harry Redknapp has yet to sign any new players but at the time of writing has also managed to keep hold of his existing star names in Luka Modric and Gareth Bale. With the news that their Premiership season will start late for Spurs, (the shocking London riots have resulted in opening fixture against Everton being postponed) perhaps by the time they do kick off, the squad may look a little different. My Spurs Prediction – Top 7
West Bromwich Albion – Under Roy Hodgson, West Brom were arguably the form team during the second half of last season. A squad littered with good players now added to by Shane Long from Reading. If they can keep hold of striking sensation Peter Odemwingie, the Baggies should enjoy a trouble free season. My West Brom Prediction – Mid Table
Wigan Athletic – Manager Roberto Martinez showed great loyalty when he decided to stay with Wigan after an approach by Aston Villa. Villa then went and snapped up Wigan’s best player in Charles N’ Zogbia and the gift for the manager’s loyalty may well be another relegation dog fight. The squad doesn’t look strong enough on paper. My Wigan Athletic Prediction – Relegation Battle
Wolverhampton Wanderers – Wolves escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season and Mick McCarthy will be hoping for less drama this time around. Jamie O’ Hara is now signed up permanently and Roger Johnson has joined from relegated Birmingham but it could well be another battle to the end at Molineux. My Wolves Prediction – Relegation Battle
Best of luck to all the teams and fans this coming football season; let’s hope it’s a great one! If you want to see part one of this EPL soccer preview follow the link.
